Recommended Fixing of

Fixings should be chosen for their corrosion resistance to suit the environment in which they are to be used.
Fixing types
Nails: Hot-dipped galvanised or stainless steel are recommended. Generally, nails should have a length of no less than three times the board thickness being fixed. As Cypress is extremely dense and tight grained care needs to be taken when nailing, as some splitting can occur. Where possible use blunt or shear point nails or alternatively remove the points of gun nails by grinding prior to installation. This will reduce the likelyhood of splitting the board. For hand nailing, a better result is achieved when the nail points are blunted slightly with a hammer prior to nailing. Alternatively, holes can be pre-drilled. Pre-drilled boards using a drill bit slightly smaller in diameter (80%) than the nail when nailing less than 50mm from board ends.
